I hope that kid doesn’t get in too much trouble…
June 9, 2006I got a kid in trouble at work (his, not mine) yesterday. While it’s his own fault, I was the inadvertent catalyst. It all started because I was bored while on a conference call yesterday and decided to google my friends. I googled my friend’s hubby’s name along with his company name. There was one hit, some kid’s (and by kid I mean, fresh out of school, at his first "real" job) blog. The kid was complaining about the long hours he had to work and the company name as well as his job title were prominent in the blog. The kid went on to say "I heart (friend’s hubby’s name, his manager)" for giving him two days off work. I thought it was funny that I found that so I called my friend and told her about it. She thought it was funny too and said she was going to call her hubby and let him know. Fast forward to 11pm last night - my friend calls me back. She told her hubby and showed him the blog and he was pissed the kid put his whole name (and job title) and all sorts of company info (including clients) on the blog. In addition, he read the rest of the blog and there were a lot of other people’s names (no last names but plenty of uncommon first names) featured too, including a HR rep. He then informed the HR rep as well as both of their managers. So needless to say, that kid is in big trouble today. All the managers are trying to figure out how to handle him. I told my friend to keep me posted. I feel bad for the kid but how could you think it was a good idea to post people’s real names, job titles and clients on the internet? Also, there was no real reason to put the names. He could have made his point just as well by saying "I heart my manager" rather than using friend’s hubby’s whole name. Oh well, his mistake.

I’m sending you a “Stop Snitchin’” T-shirt! Hee-hee.
