What Time is It?

August 27, 2008

It’s vacation time!  In a few days, hubby and I will be headed to Acapulco for a much needed vacation.  We’ve both been so busy lately that we have no clue what we’re going to do once we actually get there.  We usually do some research ahead of time and have some idea of the activities we’d like.  I guess we’ll just play it by ear this time.

I plan to start packing tonight.  We have so much miscellaneous stuff (snorkeling gear, life vests, beach mats, etc.) that it needs its own piece of luggage.  I’m sure I need to do at least a load or two of laundry as well.  However, I’ve made hubby promise that we won’t be up until the wee hours of the morning of our departure like we typically.  Also, I’M going to hold on to his passport for him.  We don’t want a repeat of the last time we left the country.  Grrrr.

Hopefully the weather will be good next week and we’ll be having fun in the sun.  I’ll try to post pics at some point but I can’t promise it will be a timely fashion.  We may be having too much fun!  emoticon

Vegas baby!

August 19, 2008

Hubby and I booked our annual trip to Vegas last night.  I may need to switch to AirTran because Delta is all about price-gauging.  I went online to select the flights we wanted then called Delta.  Note that I had to call them (vs. booking on the internet) because I had a voucher.  I was told there would be a $25 phone booking fee.  WTF?  Nevermind that my only option was booking on the phone.  Also, we just booked a flight a few weeks ago using a voucher and didn’t have to pay that fee.  So, I can only assume that the fee is new but I have yet to see anything notifyng me of a new fee.  Delta sucks!

But anyway…we’ve seen all the Cirque shows we want to see in Vegas (not a Beatles or Criss Angel fan) so we need to figure out what show to see.  We’ve already seen the Blue Man Group and I haven’t heard of any new shows.  A trip to the spa is always on the itinerary as well as checking out all the new restaurants.  We’re staying a day longer than we usually do and it will be too cold for sunbathing so I need to come up with new ways to occupy my time.  Whatever we decide, I’m sure it will be fun.

O’Dark Thirty

August 18, 2008

That’s what time I got up this morning.  Today is my first day at the new j-o-b which means carpooling with hubby.  Unfortunately, he likes to leave the house around the same time I normally wake up.  I feel like I need to take it back to third grade and take my bath and lay out my clothes the night before…  Sheesh!

I also need to start figuring out meals and a meal schedule for during the day.  I’ve been famished almost all day.  The new gig has no ’snack shack’ nor a lunch cart just an elevator ride away.  I ate some cereal around 6:30am but was about ready to gnaw my own arm off by 10:30am.  Therefore I took an early lunch (11:30am) but dangit if I wasn’t hungry again before 2:30pm.  I actually brought some Wheat Thins to nibble on but that did not suffice.  Here it is 4:30pm and I can’t WAIT to rush home and eat dinner.  Heck, I’m already thinking about what kind of after dinner snack I’m going to eat today.  Heaven help me.

On the bright side, I’ll be saving on gas.  I’m going to enjoy ‘having arrived’ by having my own personal chauffeur this week but in the interest of fairness, I guess I could drive some of the time or at least make hubby drive my car since it gets better gas mileage  emoticon

We finally saw The Dark Knight yesterday and it was awesome.  The plot twists had me continually guessing and wondering who COULD you trust.  We hadn’t been to the movies in a while so it was nice to get out on a leisurely Sunday afternoon.  Things have been pretty busy for the last few months so we haven’t gotten out as much as usual.  Thank goodness for vacations though.  We’re headed to Acapulco in less than two weeks for some much needed R&R.  In the meantime, I need to get settled into the new job as well as make my way home to see my cousin’s new baby (born June 24th - I’m so delinquent!).  But, such is life.

Yay for denim!

August 8, 2008
I’m constantly searching for jeans that I like, fit and don’t cost a million dollars.  So I was super excited when my cousin’s hubby texted me about a denim sample sale this weekend in the ATL.  I dropped off my fave jeans at this alterations place this morning to get fixed and I caught my own hubby eyeing some 7’s at the mall last week but there is no way he’s buying some $187 jeans for full retail.  So we will show up at the sale bright and early.  Lest we get too excited, I told hubby he can only get a max of three pair and I can get a max of two pair.

The weekend was a blur

August 4, 2008

Friday evening, hubby and I went out in search of cedar grilling planks.  We didn’t find any to our satisfaction so Sunday, we were forced to grill our salmon in foil.

Saturday we had a coed baby shower to attend.  We drove all the way out to the SWATS!  The subdivision was nice enough (gated and all) but it was down the street from the hood.  For some strange reason (like a weak grasp on reality), I thought the place where we attended the shower was someone’s guest house.  The whole time I was gushing to hubby about how they had gone all out for a guest house so their real house but be something out of Home & Garden.  Hubby kept trying to tell me that WAS their house but I wasn’t hearing it.  I ended up asking the father-to-be afterwards and it was not a guest house.  Multiple houses sharing one driveway really had me confused.  LOL.

Saturday night, our neighbors two doors down invited us over to ‘party like a BaRackStar’.  It seemed a bit cultish to me (I’ve never heard of people being on fire for anyone but the Lord…) but we had a good time.  Plus, our neighbors can BURN in the kitchen.  We ate well and after their repeated insistence, we took home a big plate.  They’re a bit older than us but cool people nonetheless.

We skipped church on Sunday and did all the things we would have done on Saturday if we’d been home.  The storm last week (?) damaged our gazebo and patio so hubby was working on that.  He finally restored the power out there too.  Thank goodness because it’s much too hot to sit out there without the fan.

This week will be busy.  Hubby’s basketball team has their playoffs this week.  (Last week they won second place in their division!)  Hubby’s parents are coming to town too.  Not to mention, my to do list is quite long.  I’ve promised myself that I will NOT sleep in on Friday and I will run all the errands that I need to so that I can relax on Saturday.  I actually want to check out the hiking trail at Kennesaw Mtn one weekend (shout out to Fergie).  How’s YOUR week looking?
