Give us gas

September 29, 2008

The hubby and I didn’t do much this weekend due to LACK OF GAS!  Only 1 out of 6 gas stations near me has gas at any given time.  However, none of those have premium gas.  Hubby’s car is on E, the light is on and everything.  So his car is parked for now, as it was for most of last week.  My car has less than a half a tank so I’m good through the rest of the week but that’s it.  The truck has lots of gas AND takes regular.  BUT hubby currently has it dismantled (anybody want to help replace a water pump).  Let’s just say I’m regretting selling my motorcycle…

Feeling better

September 23, 2008

Hubby is feeling better, which is good.  I’m also feeling better because I’ve been looking for gray shoes for the longest.  I’ve bought and returned two pair already.  The third pair arrived yesterday (didn’t have my size in the B&M store).  They fit and I love them.  Mission accomplished!

In the interest of deciding to how to best utilize my time, I decided to take a step back from participating in my alumni association.  They will still have my support, from afar, but I will now be devoting that time to volunteering at church.  I still need to get better with time management/scheduling.  I just realized last week that I scheduled my dad’s 65th birthday party for Thanksgiving weekend.  Which wouldn’t be a problem if we hadn’t already bought tix to visit hubby’s family.  Doh!  So I have to work that out somehow.

With winter approaching, that means two things - hubby’s basketball season and ski season.  Both will take up lots of time.  If only I had a personal assistant…  What’s more, I need to decide what to do with my hair.  My cute new cut has grown out.  Do I get it cut again (knowing hubby prefers longer hair) or do I grow it out and endure the horrid too-short-to-be-long and too-long-to-be-short phase?  Decisions, decisions.

Lazy Weekend

September 22, 2008

I didn’t do much of anything this weekend.  I don’t even think I left the house all day Friday.  I had meetings planned on Saturday and Sunday but hubby was under the weather so I stayed home to tend to him.  Though it’s still warm (low 80’s) in the daytime, the nightime temps have dropped so I decided to pull out my crockpot.  I made a mean chicken chili last week that will definitely get heavy rotation.  I also made a pot roast on Saturday so I wouldn’t have to worry about cooking on Sunday.  Easy and delicious.  I was quite proud of myself.

I THOUGHT I’d found a rug I liked for the dining room but the main color is brick red.  Upon further reflection, I don’t think I want to paint that color because the dining room has a white chair rail as well as white paneling/molding below that.  I think the red and white will look a bit odd so now I’m leaning toward going with a plum/eggplant color.  I really don’t care to paint all the molding and then that one room won’t match the rest of the house.  I’m halfway thinking of finding a decorator but the amount of time it would take to find one I like, I could probably just do the room myself.  Oh well.

Back to the House

September 15, 2008

The summer was pretty busy.  Now that fall is approaching, things are starting to slow down a bit.  Winter means ski season so we’ll be busy again come January.  So I’m going to take advantage of the down time and get back to sprucing up the inside of the house.

Next on the agenda is the dining room.  It’s currently empty due to spending money on other stuff (travel, the patio, travel) and not knowing what I want to do.  I have some nice framed prints from my old house that are currently sitting in the basement storage so I definitely want to use those.  One of the key colors in the prints is green so I’m thinking sage green for an accent color.  I’m still undecided for the main color (which we’ll paint the walls).  Perhaps a brick red or an eggplant color.  I’ve decided to work backwards though.

I’m going to find a rug first then paint the walls accordingly.  Then I’ll find curtains and accent pieces.  I pretty much know the furniture I want.  We found a nice set at least a year ago but never bothered to buy it.  I just need to verify the measurements so I can plan the placement.  A china cabinet is a must as our wedding china and every type glass imaginable are boxed up in the basement for lack of storage in the kitchen.  I also want a buffet for serving so that people don’t have to go back and forth into the kitchen.  I’m hoping to be done with the room by the end of the year so wish me luck!

Muy Embarazoso!

September 8, 2008

Hubby and I spent last week enjoying the sun and fun of Acapulco.  Friday was our last full day there so we decided to check out the spa at our hotel.  I speak VERY little Spanish (I can order food and ask for the bathroom) so that made the week very interesting.

As usual at a spa, I changed into a robe and slippers and waited for my masseuse to summon me.  When she did, she told me (in Spanish I didn’t understand and gestures) to hang my robe on the hook in the room and put on the items sitting on the table.  She exited the room and I picked up the first item.  It was blue and made out of paper.  It reminded me a bit of a diaper (curved with elastic on the sides) and had two fasteners but I didn’t see any velcro or anything to fasten it with.  Perplexed, I moved to the next item so I wouldn’t be standing around naked when the masseuse returned.  It was easily recognizable as paper panties.

I hopped up on the table, still confused by the first item.  Finally, I decided it must be to put my hair up.  A number of masseuses like to use a lot of oils around the neck area.  The paper wasn’t big enough to hold all my hair (especially since I was rocking a Fraggle ‘fro) but I put it on as best I could.  The two fasteners were dangling under my chin at this time (like you would fasten a helmet).  I decided against tying them together because I thought that would look silly.  Little did I know…

The masseuse knocks on the door and I’m feeling all proud of myself for knowing how to say "I’m ready" in Spanish.  She comes in the room looking impressed by my Spanish then looks at me and immediately stifles a laugh.  Once again, by speaking unrecognizable Spanish and gesturing, she lets me know that the paper headpiece was not meant for my head.  It was a bandeau/tube top.  I was embarrassed but all I could do was laugh as she helped me tie it on.

I know she had a good laugh with her coworkers when I left but how I was supposed to know?  No other spa that I know gives out paper tops.  In any event, I managed to add one more item to the list of ways I’ve embarrased myself in foreign countries.

Quality Time

September 2, 2008

This would be my third week in my new position if I wasn’t on vacation.  While hubby and I have worked for the same company for years (before we even started dating), we have never worked on the same project or even in the same building.  But that’s all changed now.

We don’t work ‘together’ or on the same projects (as of now) but we’re now in the same building, down the hall from each other.  As a result, we’ve started riding to work together and we eat lunch together more often than not.  The cynics say it’s crazy but I enjoy it (other than having to get up early to be on his schedule).  It’s about an hour and a half of extra quality time everyday.  Who could complain about that?
