Blogging from the BlackBerry

December 30, 2008

It’s a beautiful day today - sunny and perfect. Hubby and I decided to go for a bike ride. Of course, I’m pooped after only three miles. So hubby went ahead and I’m waiting for him to get back. I’m sure I can do the three miles back to the car but I’m hungry.

Merry Christmas!

December 25, 2008
I’m sitting on the sofa at my dad’s house, surfing the net.  Hubby is sitting next to me, playing video games with my cousin.  GeckoBro is on the opposite sofa, tinkering with his laptop.  And my dad is sitting in front of his computer, reading Newsweek.  We finished eating breakfast not too long ago and are just relaxing, enjoying each other’s company.  This is what Christmas is all about.  We exchanged gifts before breakfast and I loved seeing the looks on everyone’s faces as they opened their gifts.  We’re off to my cousins’ house later for Christmas dinner. I hope you’re all having an enjoyable Christmas as well.

What a morning!

December 22, 2008

Saturday night, we went out around 11pm and the temp was still 65 degrees.  Contrast that with the temp when I left the house this morning, 17 degrees!  Good googly moogly.  To top it off, either the power went out this morning and/or a breaker tripped.  I don’t know why but in any event, the lights went out as we were trying to get dressed.  All was well by the time we left but of course, it only resolved itself AFTER hubby manually opened the garage door and pulled both cars out of the garage.  Such is life, I suppose.

I’m only working a half day today and tomorrow because GeckoBro is arriving this afternoon.  Of course, he just told me what he wanted for Christmas on Saturday.  So, sometime today or tomorrow, I need to handle that.  Hopefully you guys are all done with your shopping.  So, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Procrastinate is what I do best

December 15, 2008

Hubby and I didn’t do much this weekend.  One of my friends had her birthday party at a lounge/sushi bar on Saturday night and that was fun.  Other than that, I was not very productive.  There are piles of clothes that need to be folded and we didn’t even make it to church on Sunday.  Not to mention, not one Christmas card has been mailed.  I’m going to get on it this week for sure.  GeckoBro arrives next Monday and I don’t want to have to do anything but lounge.

The housekeeper is coming on Saturday and I will make my hair appointment for Saturday too.  A quick trip to the grocery store as well and all will be in order.  Well except for the fact that I’m STILL not done buying Christmas gifts.  Neither GeckoDad nor GeckoBro know what they want and I’m at a loss this year.  I’m not a fan of generic gift cards but time is ticking…  Happy Monday!

Life/financial advice from Tyler Perry

December 11, 2008

This is an excerpt from an e-mail hubby got from Tyler Perry.  I think it is so very timely in these harsh economic times.

I said all of that to ask you this. What awful things are you resisting and regretting? Have you searched for a lesson in them? What difficult
thing are you going through right now? And are you surrendering or are you fighting? The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that sometimes battles are won by surrender, worship and being grateful. To all my folks struggling and fighting, make sure you’re fighting to keep what God wants in your life. Don’t let material things stress you out. If you’ve got to give up the house or the car or the job, then it’s okay! Don’t kill yourself trying to hold on to what may need to be let go. I have been there. When I was scrambling I had to make choices between gas and lunch. I was hiding from the calls of the bill collectors on the telephone. To this day I don’t like to hear the phone ring at my house. I’m serious! All of my ringers are off. Fax me…LOL! Listen to me. I lost that apartment that I showed you but gained a home. I lost my job but gained a business. I lost my car but got a better one. Surrender. Simplify your life because when you trust God life gets better.

YOU ARE GOING TO MAKE IT! SURRENDER! Let God take you where He wants you to go. So, if you would take the advice of someone who’s been through a lot, pray and say, "LORD, I surrender all!" Jesus didn’t have a place to live but he always had a place to pray.

Christmas

December 8, 2008

I don’t know what’s gotten into me this year.  Here it is December 8th and I haven’t done ANY of my Christmas shopping.  Worse yet, I haven’t even figured out what I’m going to get everyone.  I need to get on it this weekend for sure.

Hubby put out most of the Christmas decorations last week without any prompting on my part.  Yay!  The only thing left to put up is the garland in the house.  Last year, I said I wanted to get garland for the fireplaces as well but never got around to it.  Perhaps I’ll look for some this year.  I think I may look for tree at the after-Christmas sales.  It will have to be small though.  Our piano takes up half the living room and I still need to get some chairs and a side table for that room.

GeckoBro is staying with us Christmas week (except for the Christmas Eve and Christmas Day when we’ll all go to my hometown).  I can’t wait.  I love love love hanging with him and I don’t see nearly as much of him since he moved to DC.  The only downside to his visit is that he’ll stay up talking to you all night.  LOL.

What do you guys have planned for the holidays?
